Corporate volunteer events are a great way to deploy your company’s human resources towards a cause that benefits Kansas City as a whole. Planning a successful event requires time and energy, but the rewards are well worth the effort.
Start by choosing the charity/cause you want to support. This will give your event definition and focus that will make it easier for your employees to get behind. As such, it’s important that the charity you sponsor resonates with your company’s goals and ideals. A good way to do this is to survey your staff to see what they’re interested in.
Next, consider the needs of the community at large. Is there something your city needs that it doesn’t have? Determine this and prepare to fill that niche; not only will filling an unfilled need make your company stand out, it’ll help round out the services being provided within the community, thus making it stronger. Often, you’ll discover a niche where someone is already working, but doesn’t have the “corporate muscle” to make the program as large as the community needs.
The next phase is the same as it is in any business: make a plan, identify event organizers/leaders, and gather your people. As you are organizing and planning, begin marketing. Make sure the community knows what you’re doing, when you’re going to be doing it, and where they can go to either volunteer, or receive the services you will be providing.
